Exploration in SE Asia
If you are interested in food, culture, history, architecture and art in a world far different from our own, join Tribù’s hosted group trip to Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos in February 2018. Designed and led by Tribù Co-Founder Linda Shepro, the 12-day custom journey will explore remote corners of the famous sites of Vietnam and Cambodia. Relax aboard intimate river and bay cruises through picturesque landscapes, visit small villages seemingly stuck in time and engage in genuine exchanges with locals. The trip concludes with two beautiful days in serene and spiritual Laos, yet another unique cultural immersion. Accommodations throughout the journey are four- to five-star and are sure to delight travelers with luxurious and relaxing environments for this experience of a lifetime.
The journey begins in Hanoi, Vietnam’s capital city, for a full day city tour that explores several historical and cultural landmarks. Hanoi’s cultural sites reflect both ancient and recent history, covering 11th century temples, present day markets and Vietnam War relics such as the famous Hanoi Hilton. No trip to Vietnam can be considered complete without a visit to Halong Bay, a scattering of tiny limestone islands, grottoes and waterways. The group will enjoy an overnight cruise onboard a 14-cabin luxury boat that explores islets and beaches far from the crowds.
The itinerary then calls for a visit to Ho Chi Minh City (a.k.a. Saigon) for three days of exploring iconic landmarks, local arts, markets, cuisine and a visit to the Cu Chi Tunnels: a complex network of hundreds of miles of tunnels that were used during the Vietnam War. Just outside Ho Chi Minh City, the group will visit Ben Tre Province and local villages set in crisscrossing rivers, canals and rice fields. Interaction with local farmers and artisans is an experience to be remembered for all time.
Next stop is Siem Reap, Cambodia, home to the ruins of Angkor, where the Khmer kingdom reigned from the 9th through 15th centuries. Here, the group tours famed temples including its landmark construction, Angkor Wat, and embarks on a half-day bicycle journey through local markets and villagescapes. Setting out on an ATV tour through Cambodian rice terraces is a unique and interesting way to explore the landscape and enjoy a beautiful view of the setting sun in this archeological and cultural masterpiece.
This Southeast Asia adventure ends in Laos—a short 2-hour flight from Siem Reap. Here, the focus is on local Asian culture, from a tour of an organic farm that shows the rice harvest, to an exploration of a local weaving village. A ‘tuk bat’ tour allows visitors to experience this sacred daily morning ritual of giving alms to the monks, followed by a market trip will allow a glimpse into local life in Laos. End the day in Ban Ou, a picturesque village that is the starting point for a sunset cruise on the Mekong River.
